Chiropractic Therapy

Chiropractic care involves the assessment and treatment of spinal misalignments, known as vertebral subluxations, which can interfere with the nervous system's function and overall health. Chiropractors use manual techniques, such as spinal adjustments, manipulation, and soft tissue therapy, to restore proper alignment and mobility to the spine and other joints in the body. By doing so, they aim to relieve pain, reduce inflammation, improve nerve function, and enhance the body's ability to heal itself.

What to Expect from Spinal Adjustments

If you've never had a spinal adjustment, you may not know what to expect. This hands-on technique manually adjusts your spine in order to alleviate any pain you may have. After your session session, you may experience improved function and less discomfort in your back, neck, and joints. In addition, our chiropractors use these techniques to reduce the frequency of headaches and stress.

Conditions Treated with Chiropractic Adjustments

Are you experiencing joint pain? Chiropractic adjustments can help alleviate discomfort in your muscles and joints. If you have carpal tunnel syndrome, knee pain, or arthritis, a chiropractic adjustment may help. During your first visit, we will discuss your symptoms with you and review your medical history. Then, we’ll perform a physical exam, which includes a gait analysis and an evaluation of your posture. Once we determine the root cause of your pain, we can create a treatment plan for your specific needs.

Benefits of Chiropractic Adjustments

Chiropractic adjustments can provide a variety of benefits. The treatments can help reduce inflammation, lower pain, and improve your circulation. Not only that, but the adjustments can also improve your immune system and increase your range of motion, so you can return to your normal routine quickly.

Prenatal Chiropractic

Prenatal chiropractic care focuses on supporting the health and well-being of pregnant women before, during, and after childbirth. Pregnancy can place significant strain on the spine, pelvis, and supporting muscles, leading to discomfort, pain, and other musculoskeletal issues. Prenatal chiropractors are trained to provide safe and gentle adjustments tailored to the unique needs of expectant mothers. By optimizing pelvic alignment and spinal function, prenatal chiropractic care can help alleviate common pregnancy-related symptoms such as back pain, sciatica, pelvic pain, and discomfort associated with changes in posture and weight distribution. Additionally, prenatal chiropractic care may promote optimal fetal positioning and facilitate smoother labor and delivery.

Is Going to a Prenatal Chiropractor Safe?

All chiropractors are trained to work with pregnant women and teach them safely and effectively. In addition, most pregnancy chiropractors use a unique table that accounts for physical changes that a pregnant woman experiences. Therefore, this chiropractic treatment is entirely safe.

What Are the Benefits of Chiropractic Care during Pregnancy?

If you are pregnant, you should see a chiropractor for the following reasons:

Reducing nausea- Morning sickness, characterized by nausea, is one of the most uncomfortable symptoms many pregnant women experience during the first trimester. Chiropractic adjustments help realign the spine and improve the nervous system, lessening morning sickness severity.

Back pain relief- Pain in the back is one of the most common complaints of pregnant women, especially in later pregnancy. Our chiropractor helps pregnant women correct their posture and spinal curvature. As a result, the pain reduces dramatically.

Better quality of sleep- Insomnia is another common problem of pregnant women. Regular chiropractic adjustments take the strain and stress off the spine and promote relaxation.

In addition to adjustments, you can also get recommendations and advice from our pregnancy chiropractor regarding healthy sleeping positions that improve sleep quality.

Seek Prenatal Chiropractic Care

If you are pregnant, you can start prenatal chiropractic care at any time in your pregnancy. Even if you are in your second or third trimester, it is not late to try chiropractic treatment. However, starting as early as possible is better.

Pediatric Chiropractic

Pediatric chiropractic care focuses on promoting the health and well-being of infants, children, and adolescents. Children may experience a variety of musculoskeletal issues, including spinal misalignments, postural imbalances, sports injuries, and developmental challenges. Pediatric chiropractors use gentle, age-appropriate techniques to assess and address these issues, aiming to restore proper alignment, improve nervous system function, and support the body's natural growth and development. Pediatric chiropractic care may help alleviate conditions such as colic, reflux, ear infections, bedwetting, growing pains, and musculoskeletal injuries. By optimizing spinal and nervous system function early in life, pediatric chiropractic care can contribute to improved overall health, posture, mobility, and vitality as children grow and develop.

Newborn and Infant Chiropractic Care

A baby’s spine starts to experience trauma as early as birth. Getting the spine into proper alignment can help with things like colic and discomfort so the baby feels better. The spinal adjustments that are done on children this young are very gentle, simply a little bit of pressure with the touch of a finger.

Children who receive chiropractic care don’t feel any pain or discomfort during adjustments. Our chiropractors are very gentle and take their cues about the child’s adjustments from the child. Contact our office today to schedule an appointment for your child.

Care for School-Aged Children

School-aged children put their bodies under a lot of stress. Everything from carrying a backpack to having to sit in class all day can put pressure on the spine. This can slowly cause the spine to slip out of alignment.

Spinal misalignment is even more common for children who play sports, especially impact sports like football. The adjustments children this age receive are a bit firmer than the ones for babies, but they’re still very gentle.

As the spine goes back into proper alignment, the child might be able to concentrate better. The kids
may not feel aches and pains like what they might have considered normal before their adjustments.

Chiropractic care is cumulative, so everyone in the family can enjoy more benefits with each visit. Keeping up with the appointments and following any supplemental care instructions can enhance the benefits of the adjustments they receive.

Orthotics

Orthotics treatment at Universal Chiropractic with Dr. Janina may include the following steps:

Initial Assessment:

Dr. Janina would conduct a thorough assessment of the patient's condition, which may include a review of medical history, physical examination, and possibly diagnostic tests such as X-rays or gait analysis. This assessment helps determine the patient's specific orthotic needs and any underlying musculoskeletal issues that may be contributing to their symptoms.

Custom Orthotic Prescription:

Based on the assessment findings, Dr. Janina may prescribe custom orthotic devices tailored to address the patient's individual needs. These orthotics could include shoe inserts (foot orthotics), braces, or other supportive devices designed to improve biomechanical alignment, provide support, and alleviate pain or discomfort.

Orthotic Fabrication:

If custom orthotics are prescribed, molds or digital scans of the patient's feet or affected body part may be taken to ensure a precise fit. These molds or scans are then used to fabricate the custom orthotic devices according to Dr. Janina's specifications.

Fitting and Adjustment:

Once the orthotic devices are ready, the patient returns to the clinic for fitting and adjustment. Dr. Janina ensures that the orthotics fit comfortably and provide the necessary support and alignment. She may make adjustments to the orthotics as needed to optimize their effectiveness and ensure patient comfort.

Follow-up Care:

Ongoing monitoring and follow-up appointments may be scheduled to assess the patient's progress with the orthotic treatment. Dr. Janina may provide additional recommendations for exercises, lifestyle modifications, or chiropractic care to complement the orthotic treatment and address any underlying issues contributing to the patient's symptoms.

SPINAL DECOMPRESSION

Chronic back or neck pain can make it hard to do even the simplest of tasks. People often experience pain from conditions like bulging or herniated disks in the spine, placing pressure on nerves and other spinal structures. One way to help alleviate some of the discomfort is to add spinal decompression therapy to your individualized treatment program.

Nonsurgical or surgical spinal decompression can reduce the pressure on affected areas and allow you to move with ease. Our doctors can tell you how spinal decompression may facilitate your recovery.

What to Expect from Spinal Decompression

Patients may be eligible for nonsurgical or surgical spinal decompression therapy. Non-surgical spinal decompression involves the use of motorized traction to stretch the spine. This gentle procedure reduces pressure on and may induce retraction of herniated and bulging disks. With less pressure on the area, the body may continue with the healing process.

Surgical spinal decompression is used for those with more serious cases. This alternative may be suggested for those with bony growths or ruptured disks. Types of surgical spinal decompression include Corpectomy, Laminotomy and Diskectomy. One of our highly skilled doctors will clearly explain your surgical options and help you determine which one may work best for you.
